Under the leadership of City ENRO Officer Engr. Jose Alfonso A. Casurra, the Surigao City Environment & Natural Resources Office organized a coastal clean-up today January 5, 2024, to launch Zero Waste Month in Surigao City.

With the theme “Zero Waste to Philippine Waters by 2040,” the event targeted waterways, including drainage systems and canals, in three coastal areas.

City ENRO mobilized government employees, barangay councils, BHW, TUPAD workers, 4PS beneficiaries, street sweepers, Red Cross volunteers, City Parole and Probation Office, BJMP, PNP, Coast Guard, and BFP for active participation in this drive. The focus on waterways aims to instill responsibility and discipline among residents, contributing to a cleaner and greener city.

A commendable total of 241 sacks and 34 large garbage bags were collected during the event in three different coastal areas, showcasing the community’s commitment to environmental well-being.
